Most doctors and medical staff use the body mass index (BMI) to gauge whether your weight is normal or if you are under or overweight. In general, the guidelines are as follows:
Less than 18.5: underweight
Between 18.5 and 24.9: normal
Between 25 and 29.9: overweight
30 or higher: obese
It is easy to see where you stand. The internet is full of BMI calculators. Simply plug in your height and weight to find your BMI number.
If you are overweight or obese, you are at increased risk for several serious health issues, such as:
Type 2 diabetes, Stroke, High blood pressure, Sleep apnea, Heart disease, Certain cancers, Depression, and Anxiety.
In addition to health problems, being overweight can affect your quality of life.
When your hormones are out of balance or your body is not producing enough, the body functions necessary to lose weight are impaired. Conditions related to hormone disorders that can interfere with weight loss include:
Slow metabolism, Insulin resistance, Thyroid disorders, Elevated cortisol levels
Once your hormones are replenished and balanced, weight loss comes more easily.
Our nurse practitioners examine every aspect of your lifestyle and diet to write a custom plan to help you lose weight. They take a close look at medications, hormones, sleep routines, stressors, activity levels, eating times, and food choices to determine the root causes and factors that affect your weight.
